Little ones will love this cultural day out
If you’re searching for a fun family outing this summer, Louvre Abu Dhabi has just the thing.
The museum is hosting free Family Weekend workshops every Saturday until the end of August, giving children and their grown-ups the chance to get creative while exploring some of the museum’s most fascinating artworks and artefacts.
The workshops are free to join with a museum admission ticket, making them a great addition to a weekend visit.
What can families expect?
Each session begins with an interactive gallery tour, where families discover artworks and objects from the museum’s collection before heading to a hands-on art workshop inspired by what they’ve seen.
Running from 11am to 2pm every Saturday, the programme encourages children to learn through creativity, storytelling and object-based exploration. Here’s the lineup you can expect:
Create an aluminium foil relief
Inspired by Maha Malluh’s Food for Thought, families will create textured aluminium foil artworks celebrating memories, shared meals and family traditions.
Make your own souvenir coin
Young artists can design their own keepsake coin after exploring historic pieces from the museum’s coin collection, including artefacts from the Islamic world, the Byzantine Empire and ancient China.
Design a travel journal or postcard
Taking inspiration from Paul Klee’s Oriental Bliss, participants will create colourful postcards or travel journals inspired by favourite holidays and adventures.
Make a memory map
Inspired by the museum’s Terrestrial Globe, families can map out treasured childhood moments, memorable journeys or favourite family trips using colourful craft materials.
Dress the artworks
After learning about traditional clothing, jewellery and textiles from different cultures, children can decorate printed artworks from the museum’s collection with fabrics, paper and collage materials.
Make friendship jewellery
Inspired by an ancient necklace imported from the Indus Valley, this activity lets families create colourful bracelets and necklaces using beads of different shapes and colours.
Design a clay bowl
Using air-dry clay, participants will craft their own bowls or decorative containers inspired by a Japanese vessel featuring cord-pattern decoration, while exploring the stories behind everyday objects.

The workshops happen every Saturday until the end of August, from 11am to 2pm. They are free to attend with a valid Louvre Abu Dhabi admission ticket (kids go free, so only adults have to purchase – but you’re in luck because they’re also offering a summer discount right now).
