5 MINUTES WITH: Estefania Suarez, Assistant Marketing Manager, W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island

Estefania Suarez of W Abu Dhabi Yas Island

From Galicia to Abu Dhabi, Estafania shares why she loves Abu Dhabi so much

Tell us a little bit about yourself

Born and raised in Galicia, Spain, I’ve always been deeply connected to my roots, with the lush landscapes of my homeland shaping my appreciation for nature.

Since an early age, I have had the opportunity to travel a lot and participate in exchange to studies in different countries, which afforded me key experiences to expand my perspectives about other cultures and communities.

I have always been very interested in understanding how life is lived in different scenarios.

I love immersing myself in such scenarios, which I feel is a great way to connect with others – and when I need to connect with myself, I write.

How and when did you move here, and what inspired the move?

My move to Abu Dhabi was inspired by a desire to immerse myself in a new cultural experience, seeking new perspectives.

The opportunity to live and work in such an inspiring environment was too compelling to pass up. Moreover, as time goes on, I keep discovering not only the potential of this destination but the magic it frames.

The emirate’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, different identities come together and individuality is celebrated.

How has living in Abu Dhabi shaped your sense of belonging and community?

The emirate’s warm hospitality and the genuine connections I’ve made here have fostered a strong sense of belonging. The fact that there are so many different people, from different nationalities, different backgrounds help everyone who comes here to have an open mind. And having this helps you to get to know yourself better. Listening to other people’s stories and the reasons why they chose to come here is so interesting to me.

For so many different reasons, from so many different countries we ended up here and we can share those stories. You can travel around the world without leaving Abu Dhabi.
Furthermore, engaging with the local arts scene and participating in cultural events have deepened my appreciation for the region’s heritage and the perception of community.

Can you tell us about a particular person in Abu Dhabi who has had a significant impact on your life and why?

It wouldn’t be possible to mention only one person here, but the first connection I had was at work with Rebecca Rene who helped me to move here and guided my first steps in Abu Dhabi which I will always be grateful for, in hand with Jatinder Singh – both making a remarkable difference in the marketing scene of Yas Island and a great inspiration. However, I would not be able to mention only one person who has an impact because here, friends become family. I feel like I’ve discovered a new dimension of happiness in my personal life.

What is your favourite thing about the emirate and why?

My favourite aspect of Abu Dhabi is its cultural landscape. From the stunning architecture and world-class museums to the lively festivals and rich culinary scene, the emirate offers endless opportunities for exploration. This incredible blend of tradition and innovation makes Abu Dhabi a unique place to live, constantly enriching my curiosity to explore further, and is an endless source of inspiration.

A myth about Abu Dhabi that you would like to bust

I think there is this belief that Abu Dhabi and the UAE in general is this place full of high buildings, luxury and expensive things (not wrong) but it is much more than that. Abu Dhabi is a place of appreciation for life, appreciation for the future but also traditions, for culture, for nature, for growth… It is a cultural hub that defies simplistic stereotypes. The community’s inclusivity and openness have been a hallmark of my experience here.
