Etihad Rail, Uber sign agreement to enhance last-mile connectivity from UAE’s railway stations

UAE rail network explores opportunity to integrate e-hailing services

The UAE’s passenger railway service is getting better even before it officially opens.

An agreement between Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE National Rail Network, and ride-hailing service Uber is expected to provide better last and first-mile connectivity from the UAE’s new railway railay stations.

Etihad Rail earlier signed an agreement with luxury hospitality company Arsenale to bring one of the world’s first luxury cruise train services to the UAE, now passengers can expect even greater convenience and more flexibility with easy access to Uber’s transport service at stations.

The developer and operator of the UAE National Rail Network signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Uber at the 17th Middle East Rail in Abu Dhabi to “explore opportunities to integrate e-hailing services and assess the possibility of creating an Uber dedicated pickup and drop-off area for passengers within stations”, enabling commuters to better plan their journey.

Both parties also agreed to collaborate on mobility data analysis and exchanging best practices, and to explore the possibility of expanding Uber services to other cities and areas across the UAE.

Etihad Rail has not announced an opening date for the passenger rail network, but it is expected to link 11 cities and regions in the UAE.

With speeds of up to 200 km/h, time travel between emirates will be greatly reduced – only 50 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, and Dubai to Fujairah, and less than two hours from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah.
