The Etihad Marriott Mangrove Forest aims to support the UAE’s sustainability efforts.
Etihad Airways is flying even higher to greener planes with yet another rather lush initiative. The UAE national carrier is collaborating with Marriott International to plant 12,000 mangrove trees at Jubail Island.
This endeavour is part of a larger effort to create the Etihad Marriott Mangrove Forest and aid the UAE’s sustainability initiatives.
The Etihad Marriott Mangrove Forest spans more than 150 square kilometres of the UAE coastline. It will also be a portion of the only evergreen forest in the GCC, offering a natural habitat for marine and terrestrial species.

On January 27, 2023, workers from Etihad Airways and Marriott International planted the first row of mangrove plants on Jubail Island as part of the project’s two-month initial phase. The collaboration with Marriott International is part of the broader Etihad Forest initiative of planting 182,000 mangrove trees in the first quarter of 2023.
The construction of the Etihad Marriott Mangrove Forest programme aligns with Marriott International’s Sustainability and Social Impact Platform, serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction. Volunteers from Marriott International hotels in the UAE and abroad will plant trees on Jubail Island over the course of the next two months.
Through a dedicated app, staff members also get a chance to adopt a tree, keep track of its progress, and learn more about the tree-planting process and technology.
