UAE plans 800 electric vehicle charging stations

Charging an EV could become cheaper and faster under a new regulation

The UAE is making it a lot more attractive to own an electric vehicle (EV) in the country.

If you’re one of the UAE’s proud owners of an electric car, or planning to get one, charging your vehicle is set to become a lot cheaper and faster, as the government ramps up efforts to promote sustainable transportation.

This as the UAE is poised to increase the number of EV charging stations in the country from 500 to 800 in the next few years, according to Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

Speaking on the sidelines of World Utilities Conference 2023 in Abu Dhabi, the minister also said a new legislation onEV charging stations is under research with the goal of reducing charging time, keeping costs low and maintaining high efficiency.

Sustainable transport has been a major talking point in Abu Dhabi, which recently launched a new fleet of emission-free Tesla taxis. Since 2019, hybrid vehicles already account for more than 85 per cent of the UAE capital’s 6,000-strong taxi fleet.
