Two new museums announced for Abu Dhabi

Construction is already underway.

It’s great news for the art lovers of Abu Dhabi as the city will be adding another two museums to its already flourishing arts scene.

Announced by the chairman of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT), His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, the emirate will build two new museums in addition to the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum, both pencilled in for 2025 ribbon cuttings.

Although there was very little detail revealed about the two new institutions, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak told the audience at the Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2021 that the two projects were already under construction and that they differed from the previously planned Tadao Ando and the late Zaha Hadid designs for the Saadiayt Cultural District.

According to art media sources, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak said the emirate is throwing its support behind the culture community.

HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak said: “A very clear and conscious decision to invest in culture, and investing in culture does not just mean buildings.

“We’re investing in infrastructure, both soft and hard—whether it’s institutions, music programs, or school curricula.”

Currently, residents in Abu Dhabi can enjoy many art exhibits around the capital including at the Cultural Foundation, Louvre Abu Dhabi, NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery and at the Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2021 in Manarat Al Saadiyat.
