One student scores the perfect pass rate.
As students across Abu Dhabi receive their exam results, one particular school in the capital will be happier than most!
Students at Al Bateen Academy, an Aldar Education school, have scored an average result of 35 out of a possible 45 points in their International Baccalaureate® (IB) results.
“This means that we have a 100 per cent pass rate, which means everyone was successful in realising the IB Diploma,” said Al Bateen Academy Principal Neal Dilk, who spoke exclusively to Team Yalla this morning.
Neal went on to say how 17 students received 40 points, with the maximum score for IB being 45 points in total.
International Baccalaureate candidates study over a course of two years in six different subjects, with the scores for each subject graded out of seven, giving a possible academic score of 42.
Students also undertake three other activities for bonus points. These include Community Action and service, Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay Writing.
“Around the world, the average IB score is usually 30,” says Neal. “So being a 35 at a school is significantly higher than the average at a school that realises IB.”
“Fifty-two, Year 13 students scored a 100 per cent pass rate at Al Bateen Academy, with 17 per cent of upper graduates scoring 40 per cent or higher, which is extremely high in terms of a global average,” Neal added.
Neal went on to reveal how one of the students scored perfect grades.
“The chances of that are extremely low and I am happy to say that that student is heading off to Oxford University to study Law,” he said.
Neal also revealed that the same student scored the highest GCSE grade for Music in the world out of all GCSE students.
According to Neal, the IB is extremely rigorous and those who complete the IB diploma will find their first year at university easy.
