REVIEW: This fabulous Yas Acres Steakhouse is upping the stakes

Start or end, or both, in the rather stylish The Black Room

Friday, post a gruelling week at work, is the perfect time to head out of the city (albeit not too far) to find a spot that serves up great dishes and stupendous views to boot.

A tall order, we know. But we found just the place and we think you’ll like it, more so if you are a steak lover and very much love a fine-dining ambience (who doesn’t?), this is for you.

Acres Grill House is a fairly new (opening late 2022) contender to Abu Dhabi’s grill scene and is well worth the drive out to the impeccable greens of Yas Acres Golf & Country Club.

Aside from having probably the best open views in the capital of a lake and golf course, this rather snazzy grill house serves up extremely succulent prime steaks and innovative drinks and so much more.

We started our evening in The Black Room, a sophisticated lounge adjoining the Acres Grill House. The Black Room serves a wide selection of no less than 40 different malt beverages from across the globe. And if you’re not heading into Acres Grill, there is a rather delightful bites menu surrendering Lochefyne crisps, Scottish smoked salmon with crispy galette, baby rocket leaf, zataar cream, pickled radish, and foie gras terrine campagnard, among others.

The Black Room is also the perfect space for post dinner drinks too, but either way, we know you’re going to simply love it!

After a few nibbles and a rather refreshing mocktail, we headed into Acres Grill. The immense space is elegant and thoughtfully designed. If you prefer to dine alfresco, there is an absolutely enormous terrace overlooking the lush golf course, that said, however, we chose to dine indoors.

The menu is decadent, to say the least, surrendering a selection of prime cuts, including succulent steak such as Australian Wagyu Blackmore, signature cuts to share, rib selections and more, all of which is cooked to perfection in the Josper Grill for an insatiable smoky flavour.

There’s no steak without grape, of course, and the world-class grape list is extensive, with labels that perfectly pair with the dishes.

Before delving into the meat-filled dishes, it’s good to note that Acres Grill House also caters to vegetarians and vegans, serving dishes such as Beyond Burger, a perfectly grilled vegan burger patty, roasted tomato, grilled onion, Sriracha mayo, lettuce, vegan bun and vegan Cheddar cheese; and, among others, The Shroom that Wanted to be a Steak, consisting of grilled Portobello mushrooms, celeriac puree, king asparagus, and black sesame chimichurri.

Being fully paid-up members of the carnivore club, we selected steaks from the fames Josper Grill.  All steaks come with a side and sauce of your choice.

The menu is varied with sections headed by US-Prime Creek Stone Black Angus;  Australian Wagyu Blackmore; From the Sea; Chicks N chops; Signature Cuts to Share, and it is the latter that caught our attention. The sections continue with Ribs Corner and Signature Salads.

Remember, it’s Friday evening and we’re looking to treat ourselves, so we choose the mammoth Australian OP Rib (Tomahawk) at a whopping 1,100 grams. Rightfully named, the king of all steaks, it was absolutely juicy and succulent. The single massive rib eye on the bone cut from the centre of a full rib of Black Angus beef with specifically five inches of rib bone left intact. We certainly chose well and highly recommend this rather good looking and tasty treat!

Was there room for desserts? You betcha!

Seven tantalising sweets vied for our attention, but Apple Tatin and Hot Chocolate Tiramisu won the day, our hearts and, of course, our tastebuds!
