The piece brings together architecture, craftsmanship, and cultural dialogue
A new Louvre Abu Dhabi–inspired handbag has been unveiled this week.
The collaboration between Venetian luxury brand Dellaluna and Louvre Abu Dhabi introduces the Louvre Abu Dhabi Bag.
The piece is conceived as an extension of the museum’s narrative – shaped by shared histories, craftsmanship, and the long-standing cultural dialogue between Venice and the Arab world.
At the heart of the project is the concept of exchange, translated into design. As a museum built on cross-cultural connections, Louvre Abu Dhabi provides a natural framework for this collaboration.
That ethos is reflected in the bag’s design, which draws directly from Arab architectural language, particularly the museum’s iconic dome.
Muted stone-grey tones, geometric structure, and subtle references to the dome’s “rain of light” effect are combined with Dellaluna’s signature patterns inspired by Venetian architecture.
The result is a piece that brings together two distinct visual traditions in a cohesive and considered way.

Equally central to the project is its craftsmanship. Each bag requires more than 150 hours of work and is produced using traditional Venetian leather techniques that date back over a century.
This level of detail underscores a commitment to precision, durability, and material integrity, qualities that align closely with the museum’s broader values. In contrast to the fast-paced nature of contemporary fashion, the Louvre Abu Dhabi Bag places emphasis on time, process, and longevity.
The collaboration will be officially unveiled on 6 May 2026 during the Venice Biennale, at an exclusive event held at Palazzina Fortuny + Chahan. The choice of venue reinforces the project’s positioning at the intersection of art, design, and cultural discourse.
Importantly, the Louvre Abu Dhabi Bag is not presented as a commercial product, but rather as a conceptual and crafted object.
It reflects a broader idea: that design can serve as a medium for cultural storytelling, carrying references across geographies while maintaining a strong sense of identity.
In that sense, the piece operates less as a traditional fashion item and more as an artefact, one that embodies craftsmanship, dialogue, and the meaningful exchange of ideas across disciplines and regions.
