This initiative celebrates global changemakers working for peace and coexistence

The search is officially on for the next wave of inspiring changemakers.

The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has opened submissions for its 2027 edition, inviting nominations for individuals and organisations doing exceptional humanitarian work around the world.

With its $1 million prize, the award continues to shine a spotlight on efforts that bring people together, promote peace, and foster mutual understanding, values that feel especially urgent in today’s climate.

Launched in Abu Dhabi and inspired by the landmark Human Fraternity document signed in 2019, the award carries forward a powerful legacy.

That historic declaration, signed by Pope Francis and Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, called for greater compassion, coexistence, and dialogue across cultures and religions. Those same ideals sit at the heart of the award today.

Named in honour of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the award reflects his enduring belief in kindness, inclusivity, and helping others without discrimination.

Whether it’s through education, humanitarian aid, sustainability, or community development, the award celebrates people who are actively building bridges in a divided world.

Earlier this year, the 2026 award ceremony took place at the Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi, bringing together world leaders and dignitaries from more than 40 countries.

The honourees reflected a diverse range of impactful work, from a historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, to humanitarian efforts by the Palestinian organization Taawon, and advocacy for women’s rights by Afghan activist Zarqa Yaftali.

Since its launch in 2019, the award has recognised 20 honorees from across the globe, spanning fields like healthcare, refugee support, education, and food relief. It’s a reminder that meaningful change comes in many forms, and from many places.

For those looking to nominate a deserving individual or initiative, submissions are open until 1 October, 2026, via the award’s official website.
