If you drive regularly in Abu Dhabi, this is one of those updates that may directly affect your daily commute.
The partial road closure on President Joko Widodo Street, running until 30 August 2026, is going to sit right in the middle of a fairly busy and sensitive part of the city’s road network.
And the big reason it matters is its proximity to the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi; one of the capital’s main event and exhibition hubs.
That area already sees a constant flow of traffic on a normal day, but it becomes especially intense whenever there’s a major exhibition, conference, or international event happening at ADNEC.
So, when you layer roadworks and lane restrictions on top of that, you’re basically adding friction to an already busy system.
In practical terms, even a “partial” closure usually means fewer lanes, slower junctions, and traffic being pushed onto surrounding roads.

That’s where the real knock-on effect starts. Commuters who normally pass through smoothly may suddenly find themselves sitting in slower-moving queues, especially during peak morning and evening hours.
And because ADNEC attracts both regular office traffic and large numbers of visitors at the same time, the congestion doesn’t stay isolated, it spreads outward into nearby routes.
If you’re attending an event at ADNEC during this period, the main thing to expect is extra travel time and less predictable journeys.
What is normally a 10–15 minute drive can easily stretch longer if there’s an overlap with construction activity or an event arrival/departure rush.
Taxis and ride-hailing services will also feel it, with longer pick-up times and more difficulty navigating drop-off points efficiently.
But in the short term, especially through the summer months, this is very much a “plan ahead and leave earlier than usual” situation for anyone using that corridor.
