Authorities say the decision is backed by detailed traffic studies
Since 4 May 2026, Abu Dhabi has two new DARB toll gates: Ghantoot Toll Gate and Al Qurm Toll Gate.
Apart from being two new additions, the new gates are also active 24/7 – unlike the other tolls that operate for periods of time during the day, usually 7am-9am and 3pm-7pm.
The Ghantoot Toll Gate will be positioned along Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street, a key stretch for those travelling between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Meanwhile, the Al Qurm Toll Gate will sit on Wahat Al Karama Street, right at the entry and exit points of Sheikh Zayed Street, an area many commuters pass through daily.
If you’re planning your route, there are still alternative options to keep in mind. Drivers can divert via Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street near Ghantoot, or take Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street and Arabian Gulf Street around Al Qurm.

As with the existing DARB system, an AED4 fee will apply per crossing. However, certain groups will continue to benefit from exemptions for one registered vehicle, including senior citizens, People of Determination, retirees, and low-income citizens.
The new locations weren’t chosen at random either. Authorities say the decision is backed by detailed traffic studies, looking at congestion levels, driving patterns, and the availability of nearby alternative routes. This is all part of wider efforts to keep traffic flowing smoothly and reduce congestion across key routes in the capital.
