Disney’s highly anticipated theme park resort in Abu Dhabi takes a major step forward following a visit by senior executives to Yas Island

Disneyland Abu Dhabi feels closer than ever, with fresh clues hinting at where the Middle East’s first Disney theme park could soon rise on Yas Island.

The latest excitement was sparked after Disney chief executive Bob Iger shared photos on Instagram showing him “walking the site of what will one day be Disneyland Abu Dhabi”.

While no official location has been confirmed, the images have fueled speculation among fans and industry watchers alike.

One photograph appears to show a small jetty in the background, similar to a structure visible on Google Maps along the largely undeveloped northern edge of Yas Island.

Another image includes a familiar Yas sign, believed to be located near Yas North along the E12 Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Highway, close to the island’s western entrance.

Together, the visuals offer the clearest indication yet of where the landmark project may take shape.

Iger did not reveal an opening date, but the park, announced in May 2025, will become Disney’s seventh global theme park resort and its first in the Middle East.

It will also mark the company’s first all-new park since Shanghai Disney Resort opened in 2016.

Momentum continued this week as Iger and Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro visited Abu Dhabi to review progress on the project.

During their trip, the Disney leadership met with His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, alongside senior figures shaping the emirate’s tourism and cultural vision, including Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral, and Miral CEO Dr Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, discussions centred on the development roadmap for the resort, which is being delivered through a strategic partnership between Miral and The Walt Disney Company.

While details remain under wraps, Disney has reaffirmed its ambition to create its most technologically advanced theme park to date.

The resort is expected to feature themed attractions, signature Disney entertainment, accommodation, dining and retail, with at least one Disney-branded hotel anticipated on site.

Iger has previously described the project as “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati,” blending iconic storytelling with the cultural and futuristic spirit of Abu Dhabi.

Josh D’Amaro has suggested the design phase could take up to two years, followed by four to six years of construction, while Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak has hailed the project as “a whole new world of imagination” set to inspire generations across the region and beyond.

With Miral’s proven success on Yas Island – home to Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld – Disneyland Abu Dhabi represents another major step in the capital’s rise as a global leisure and entertainment hub.

For fans across the UAE and the wider Middle East, the message is clear: Disney magic is no longer just an idea. It’s officially taking shape, one step at a time.
