Temporary traffic diversions are now in place across the capital's suburb
If Mohammed Bin Zayed City is part of your daily commute, it’s worth allowing a little extra time over the next couple of months.
AD Mobility has announced a series of temporary road closures and traffic diversions across the area from 3 July until 28 August 2026 to allow essential infrastructure works to take place.
While the upgrades are aimed at improving traffic flow in the long term, motorists can expect a few delays in the meantime.
Expect diversions and longer journeys
Drivers travelling through Mohammed Bin Zayed City should be prepared for temporary detours, altered traffic routes and possible congestion, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.
If you live in the area, work nearby or regularly pass through on your way to other parts of Abu Dhabi, it may be worth checking your route before setting off. Even familiar roads could be affected as work progresses throughout the summer.
AD Mobility is advising motorists to follow all temporary road signs and traffic management measures in place, while keeping an eye on the latest travel updates before heading out.
Planning ahead
With schools on their summer break, traffic is generally lighter than at other times of the year, making it an ideal window to carry out infrastructure improvements.
Even so, commuters should expect journey times to be longer than usual, especially during peak periods.
If possible, consider leaving a little earlier, using an alternative route or allowing extra time for appointments while the works are underway.
The temporary traffic measures will remain in place until 28 August, after which normal road access is expected to resume
