Planning a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque? There’s a new detail to know before you go, with the Abu Dhabi landmark now introducing entry fees for visitors.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has announced new prices depending on how you’re visiting, while worshippers can still enter without paying an entry fee.
Here’s everything you need to know before planning your visit, from the new prices and opening hours to tours, dress code and the extra experiences available on site.
How much does it cost to visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque?
The new entry fees are:
- AED5 for UAE residents with an Emirates ID
- AED10 for visitors from outside the UAE
- AED8 for visitors arriving through tour operators
- Free for worshippers
Access passes are available through the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre.
When can you visit?
The mosque is open from 9am to 8.30pm from Saturday to Thursday.
On Fridays, visiting hours are split into two periods:
9am to 11.30am
2.30pm to 8.30pm
So, if you’re planning a Friday visit, make sure you don’t turn up during the midday closure.
There’s more to see
The mosque isn’t the only experience available. The centre’s Light & Peace Museum costs AED25, while Diya, an immersive 360-degree experience exploring Islamic civilisation, is also AED25.
Fancy doing both? A combined ticket costs AED40.
Diya takes visitors on a sensory journey through sound and light, moving through star-filled skies, different landscapes and aspects of the UAE before arriving at the architecture of the Grand Mosque.
Want to take a tour?
Free guided cultural tours are also available for individuals and groups, led by official cultural tour specialists.
The tours explore the mosque’s architecture, Islamic art and culture, giving visitors a little more context behind what they’re seeing. Tours take around 45 to 60 minutes.
What should you wear?
The dress code is important, so it’s worth planning your outfit before heading over.
Women should wear loose-fitting, ankle-length clothing that covers the arms and legs, and must cover their hair. Transparent or tight clothing, shorts, short skirts and sleeveless tops are not permitted.
Men need to wear long trousers covering the ankles. Shorts, sleeveless tops and tight clothing are not allowed.
If you arrive without suitable clothing, abayas are available to buy at Souq Al Jami next to the mosque.
One of Abu Dhabi’s biggest attractions
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque continues to draw visitors from around the world, with more than 3.1 million guests recorded during the first half of 2026.
Opened in 2007, the mosque is one of Abu Dhabi’s most recognisable landmarks, known for its vast white marble courtyards, domes, reflective pools and intricate Islamic-inspired architecture.
So, while there’s now a small entry fee for visitors, there’s plenty packed into a trip – and the free cultural tours are a good way to see the mosque while learning more about the history, architecture and culture behind it.
