The new theme park is taking the spotlight in a new doc
Ever wondered how the worlds of Frozen, Star Wars, Avatar, Marvel and Pixar make the leap from the screen to Disney’s iconic theme parks?
A brand-new documentary, Disney Worldbuilders, is set to answer exactly that – and Abu Dhabi is set to take the spotlight as one of the new Disney theme parks currently in the works.
Directed by Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, the feature-length documentary takes viewers behind the scenes with some of Disney’s biggest creative minds to explore how the company’s most beloved stories evolve into immersive experiences around the world.
A first look at Disney Abu Dhabi
Alongside never-before-seen insights into Disney’s creative process, Disney Worldbuilders will offer fans a glimpse at new themed lands and experiences currently in development at Disney destinations around the world. And yes, that means Abu Dhabi too.
Sharing the trailer for the documentary on Instagram, Miral – the company behind Disney Abu Dhabi – revealed that Chairman, H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, and Bob Iger will be talking about the vision behind Disney Abu Dhabi on the show.
In the video, you can also see Disney CEO Bob standing on what looks like the rumoured Disney Abu Dhabi location on Yas Island, Yas North, saying: “You have to dream big… You have to have a wild imagination!”
At the time of his visit to Abu Dhabi, Bob also shared a picture on Instagram, leading people to assume the location – but this has not been officially announced by Miral.
The documentary also features candid conversations with an impressive line-up of Disney executives and filmmakers, including James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush and Josh D’Amaro.
Together, they reflect on the childhood memories, creative breakthroughs and collaborations that helped shape blockbuster franchises – including Avatar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Frozen and Zootopia.
The film also explores Disney’s unique creative process, where stories inspire attractions and, in turn, those attractions spark the next generation of storytelling.
