Maestro leading an orchestra in Abu Dhabi, showcasing cultural events.

An evening of Beethoven, Brahms and Chinese orchestral works

Stand by classical music fans, as a remarkable evening of music and cultural exchange is coming to The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi on 8 June.

The UAE National Orchestra presents a powerful concert led by internationally acclaimed conductor and pianist Xu Zhong, bringing together Eastern and Western musical traditions in one iconic performance.

This is set to be one of Abu Dhabi’s standout classical music events of the season.

The evening opens with Dance of the Yao People by Liu Tieshan and Mao Yuan, a colorful and expressive orchestral work inspired by the traditions and rhythms of China’s Yao ethnic community.

Filled with rich orchestral textures, the piece offers audiences an immersive introduction to the beauty of Chinese musical storytelling.

From there, the programme transitions into one of the most celebrated works in the classical repertoire: Johannes Brahms’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor, Op. 102.

The concerto will feature extraordinary performances by renowned cellist Eric Picard of the Orchestre de Paris alongside Nicolas Koeckert, concertmaster of the UAE National Orchestra.

Their musical dialogue promises to be both intimate and electrifying, showcasing the emotional depth and technical brilliance that make Brahms’s final orchestral work such a masterpiece.

The concert culminates with Ludwig van Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 5; a work whose legendary four-note opening remains one of the most recognisable motifs in music history.

Under Maestro Xu Zhong’s direction, Beethoven’s timeless symphony will unfold with intensity, drama, and triumphant energy, bringing the evening to a stirring conclusion.

Beyond the performance itself, the concert also highlights the growing cultural vision of the UAE National Orchestra, an ambitious initiative dedicated to celebrating Emirati musical heritage while embracing artistic collaboration from around the world

Under the leadership of Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, the orchestra is helping shape the UAE’s future as a global center for cultural excellence, nurturing local talent while building bridges through music.

For classical music lovers, and anyone looking to experience a world-class live performance in Abu Dhabi, this is a must-see event.
