Abu Dhabi motorists are being advised to plan ahead this weekend as temporary road closures and traffic restrictions are set to be implemented around Wahat Al Karama for the upcoming ‘Run for the Nation’ community race.

The Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Centre (AD Mobility) has confirmed that several roads in the area will be partially closed this Saturday, 18 April, to accommodate the 5km event, which is expected to draw strong community participation.

The restrictions are being introduced to ensure smooth race operations, crowd safety, and an uninterrupted experience for runners taking part in the early morning event.

The ‘Run for the Nation’ race is scheduled to begin at 8am and is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with the Zayed Charity Run initiative.

Designed as a community-focused fitness event, the run encourages residents from across the UAE to take part, promoting health, unity, and an active lifestyle.

To support the event, traffic restrictions will be in effect from 5am until 10am in and around the Wahat Al Karama area.

During this period, motorists should expect diversions and possible delays, particularly on approach routes leading into the event zone.

Authorities have urged drivers to use alternative routes where possible and to allow extra travel time if commuting through nearby areas.

Wahat Al Karama, a significant national landmark in Abu Dhabi, will serve as the central location for the race.

Known for its symbolic importance and open surroundings, the site is a fitting backdrop for an event that blends fitness with national pride.

The race itself is part of a broader push to encourage community participation in sports and outdoor activity, aligning with wider initiatives that promote wellness across the emirate.

With free entry and an accessible 5km format, organisers are expecting a wide range of participants, from seasoned runners to families and first-time participants.

Officials have emphasised that all measures are being taken to ensure both participant safety and minimal disruption to road users.

Clear signage and on-ground traffic management will be in place throughout the morning to guide motorists and maintain smooth flow in surrounding areas.

As Abu Dhabi prepares to host the event, residents are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and plan their weekend travel accordingly.
