The UAE has officially announced the return to classrooms for all schools across the country
The UAE’s Ministry of Education has confirmed that students across the country will return to in-person learning on 20 April 2026, marking a major step back to normal classroom routines for families, students, and educators after a period of distance learning and an extended spring break.
The return applies to all public and private nurseries, kindergartens, and schools nationwide.
Authorities said the decision follows the completion of extensive readiness measures, including the preparation of school facilities, staff training, and updates to safety and security procedures to ensure a smooth transition back to classrooms.
Despite the initial decision to keep school bus services stopped, the Ministry of Education has announced today (18 April) that bus services will also resume on Monday, 20 April.
The announcement comes after nearly seven weeks of distance learning, with the return seen as a significant milestone in restoring routine across the education sector.
Despite the full return to in-person learning, authorities have maintained a degree of flexibility within the system.
Private schools, in particular, will have the option to implement a hybrid rotational model where necessary, subject to approval from local education regulators such as the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).

This means some schools may continue to balance in-person and remote learning where required, particularly as they ease students back into full classroom schedules.
There are also clear guidelines in place for how hybrid learning should work. Schools must organise staffing carefully to ensure lessons continue without disruption, and teachers won’t be expected to handle both in-person and online classes at the same time.
During the last number of weeks, preparations have been underway across the education sector to ensure everything is ready for a wider return.
Behind the scenes, authorities have also been rolling out additional support measures. These include enhanced safety planning, evacuation procedures, and professional training for staff, along with a focus on psychological readiness to help both students and educators adjust back to classroom life.
This latest development follows the recent announcement that nurseries will be the first education sector to see a return to on-site learning, with facilities located in government premises and commercial buildings reopening in the initial phase.
Other nurseries that are not included in this stage will continue operating through alternative arrangements, including home-based childcare services delivered by nursery teachers, in line with approved guidelines and procedures.
Now, with classrooms reopening and systems in place, the focus shifts to helping students settle back in, reconnect with their routines, and ease into the remainder of the academic term.
