New measures aim to ease congestion and improve safety
Big changes are rolling into Abu Dhabi as from 1 December, some of the city’s busiest roads will breathe a little easier, with heavy vehicles taking a backseat.
The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, announced that Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E11) and Al Raha Beach Road (E10) will no longer welcome heavy vehicles.
Meanwhile, trucks using Al Rawdah Road in Mussafah (E30) will face restrictions during peak hours, specifically from the bridges complex to the truck bridge in both directions.
Officials say the move is part of a larger traffic management plan designed to reduce congestion on high-density corridors, improve road safety, and make daily commutes smoother for everyone.
For truck drivers, there’s a silver lining: alternative routes have been designated, including Al Fayah-Seih Shuaib Road (E75) and Al Haffar Road, keeping freight moving while easing the load on central arteries.
In short, Abu Dhabi is taking a strategic approach to keep the city moving, one less truck at a time.
Whether you’re commuting to work, school, or just cruising around, expect clearer roads and a smoother ride from December onwards.
