Spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj arrives in Abu Dhabi

The BAPS Hindu Mandir, situated in Abu Mureikhah, will be the Middle East’s first traditional Hindu stone temple

Spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj arrived in Abu Dhabi this week in anticipation of the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu temple, marking a historic event for the UAE.

The revered leader and state guest is set to preside over the inauguration on 14 February, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to officiate.

Warmly welcomed by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance for the UAE, Mahant Swami Maharaj expressed gratitude for the warm reception, stating, “We are touched by your love and respect. The leaders of the UAE are great, good, and large-hearted.”

The BAPS Hindu Mandir, situated in Abu Mureikhah, will be the Middle East’s first traditional Hindu stone temple. Gifted 27 acres of land by the UAE Government, the Mandir symbolises the enduring friendship between India and the UAE, with initial support from Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2015.

As a state guest, Mahant Swami Maharaj experienced an honourific Arabic-style welcome, featuring traditional cultural performances. The Mandir, overseen by Brahmaviharidas Swami, is seen as a “spiritual oasis” for global harmony.

The upcoming ‘Festival of Harmony’ on 14 February will celebrate the Mandir’s inauguration, attended by dignitaries, including PM Modi. Preparations for the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event, where PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora on 13 February are in full swing.
