The new Terminal will welcome 15 airlines who will be moving their operational services to the new start-of-the-art facility in the next two weeks

With the imminent opening of the new Terminal at Abu Dhabi Airport along with National Day celebrations taking place at the start of next month, it was announced this week that the new facility will be renamed Zayed International Airport and will take effect from 9 February 2024.

The new Terminal is set to welcome guests and open its door to the public tomorrow, 1 November, while over 15 airlines will be moving their operational services to the new start-of-the-art facility in the next two weeks.

There was further good news for the airport with this week’s renaming set to elevate its reputation throughout the region. Sheikh Zayed is the founding father of the UAE and brought the seven rulers of the Emirates together back in 1971.

Other important sites to be named after him include the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which has become the national cultural and traditional treasure of Abu Dhabi over the years.

Construction on this state-of-the-art complex, previously also known as Midfield Terminal, began in 2012 and was expected to take five years to complete. The new AED 10.8 billion terminal will provide a boost to Etihad passengers with up to 11,000 guests availing of the facilities per hour and a whopping 30 million passengers on an annual basis.
