Abu Dhabi Police announces minimum speed limit in both directions on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road

Did you know that driving too slow can actually get you fined?

A new traffic regulation in Abu Dhabi has set a minimum speed limit when travelling in both directions on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road.

Drivers on the first and second lanes of this road will have to maintain a minimum speed of 120 kilometres per hour (kph), according to Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), which will implement the new speed limit starting Monday, 1 May. Motorists can speed up to a maximum of 140kph on this road.

 

 

Those caught driving below the speed limit will be subject to a AED 400 fine.

Road safety has been a top priority in Abu Dhabi, with its rapidly growing population and increasing number of vehicles on the road. The measures introduced by the government have been crucial in improving road travel, with the UAE significantly reducing road deaths from 10 per 100,000 people in 2010 to 7.4 in 2015 and 3.5 in 2019, according to research by Injury Prevention, a peer-reviewed publication by the British Medical Journal.
