The new nationwide ne’ma UAE campaign is set to halve food waste by 2030

 

In a heartfelt nod to tradition and sustainability, the UAE has launched a sweeping awareness campaign under ne’ma, the National Food Loss and Waste Initiative.

Dubbed ‘Valuing Our Roots,’ this nationwide movement is more than just a slogan; it’s a rallying cry for all residents to rethink their relationship with food.

Anchored in Emirati values of environmental stewardship and resource preservation, the campaign aims to cut food loss and waste in half by 2030. In collaboration with ADQ, Tadweer Group, and a host of other stakeholders, ne’ma is setting the stage for a cultural shift toward sustainable consumption.

The campaign launch brought together key players from across the UAE’s food value chain—think the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, Aldar, and the Emirates Food Bank.

Together, they showcased cutting-edge innovations and solutions that could redefine food sustainability.

Her Excellency Mariam Almheiri, Chairwoman of the ne’ma Steering Committee, set the tone with a powerful message:

“This is more than a campaign; it’s a national movement. Together, we’re reawakening the sense of responsibility toward food preservation, rooted in the wisdom of our traditions.”

The initiative is not just about cutting waste but fostering a vibrant dialogue across generations.

As Khuloud Hasan Al Nuwais of the Emirates Foundation explained, “It’s where the wisdom of our forefathers meets the ingenuity of our youth.”

With partners like Tadweer offering their expertise in waste management and circular economy practices, ne’ma is doubling down on innovation to tackle food waste. The campaign also highlights Emirati heritage, reminding us that sustainability isn’t just a modern buzzword; it’s a timeless value.

Through exhibitions spotlighting groundbreaking solutions and community-driven initiatives, ne’ma is laying the groundwork for a UAE where every bite counts.
