Abu Dhabi gets the UAE’s first 100% electric waste truck

It’s also the first fully electric heavy truck in the Middle East

Another day, another green initiative in the UAE capital.

From launching awards commemorating sustainable initiatives to working on being the country’s first zero-waste emirate, Abu Dhabi has been pulling out all the green stops.

And now, the emirate has its first 100 per cent electric waste truck! Which is also the first fully electric heavy truck to be launched in the Middle East.

The truck was launched by Abu Dhabi Waste Management PJSC (Tadweer) in collaboration with Renault Trucks Middle East and Al Masaood.

This is in line with UAE’s net-zero ambitions and sustainability agendas; the first Renault 100 per cent electric truck will be used by Tadweer, the sole custodian of waste management for Abu Dhabi, to collect household waste in the emirate.

The truck was manufactured by Renault Trucks, under the dealership of Al Masaood, following the signing of an agreement between Tadweer and Al Masaood during the recent EcoWaste Exhibition and Conference.

Being the first heavy truck operating in the region, the Renault Trucks E-tech truck will also run a pilot programme to gauge the vehicle’s performance in the high temperatures of the capital’s summer heat and address logistical challenges such as charging station availability along key routes.

The UAE’s first 100 per cent electric waste truck supports Tadweer in achieving its mission by building an integrated waste management system and achieving a circular economy.
