Welcome to this month’s holiday edition of The Sideline by Seth Amoafo.

School holidays are around the corner and with it, comes plans to get away from a break.

However, the sporting community never stops so here is a rundown of what’s been happening since the last time we spoke.

ADEK Sports Cup

The finals of the inaugural ADEK Cup were played on 20 March at the beautiful Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium, home of Al Jazira FC.

The girls’ final was contested between Brighton College and British School al Khubairat (BSAK) and the boys’ decider between Repton Abu Dhabi and International School of Choueifat Abu Dhabi.

All four schools brought with them a large support, banners, drums and even the odd vuvuzela to create a real fun, festival atmosphere that was enjoyed by all, old and young alike.

Brighton College triumphed 2-0 over BSAK in the girls with goals from Ava Kokalj and an own goal and Choueifat overpowered Repton with a 5-0 victory from scorers Karim Darwische (2), Karam Dimiaty (1), Amr Belacy (1) and Kareem Tawfik (1) to make both schools the first ever champions.

A very well done to all teams for making it to the final, and especially to Ava Kokalj from Brighton and Karim Dimyati from Choueifat for being the recipients of the ‘Best and Fairest’ player of the match awards.

Congratulations to all the key stakeholders in The Department of Education and Knowledge, Joe Lewis Company, PASS Abu Dhabi and Al Jazira FC for organising a hugely successful school event.

There are plans to make this a regular event so look out for details of the next instalment.
