Some of the best golf players on the planet are coming to Abu Dhabi to showcase their skillful touches at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Golf fans will have the opportunity to watch four days of intense golf action in the beautiful and new surrounds of Yas Links Abu Dhabi as the tournament embarks on a new era on Yas Island.

What is happening in Abu Dhabi?

 

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship 2022 is teeing off on Yas Island this January. The world’s best golf players will be battling out for the first Rolex Series event of the season on the DP World Tour (formerly The European Tour) from 20 to 23 January 2022.

 

Where is the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship being held?

 

The tournament is being played at Yas Links Abu Dhabi on Yas Island for the first time in its history.

 

Who is playing at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship?

 

The competition has a long history of attracting some of the biggest names in world golf with past champions including Martin Kaymer (Germany), Lee Westwood (England), Paul Lowry (Ireland) and Rickie Fowler (USA) and 2022 will be no different with Northern Ireland’s four-time major golf winner, Rory McIlroy, and DP World Tour number one, Collin Morikawa, already pencilled in for the tournament.

There will also be local interest in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship this year with UAE golf amateur Josh Hill from Dubai securing his place on the card by winning the 2021 Abu Dhabi Amateur Championship in December.

 

What is the order of play at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship?

 

Competition days are 20 to 23 January with gates opening at 6.45am and tee off times are 7.20am and 8am on Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday respectively.

However, before the world’s best golfers commence battle, Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 January will offer golf fans a chance to see their heroes practice their driving, short game and putting at Yas Links Abu Dhabi, before Wednesday 18 January provides a day of relaxation as celebrities join the pros for a round of 18 at the Pro-Am event.

 

Is this the first time the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship will be held in the city?

 

No. This will be the 17th edition the golf tournament to be held in Abu Dhabi, however, it is the first time the championship will be played at Yas Links Abu Dhabi. The previous 16 editions were played at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Englishman Tyrrell Hatton won last year’s tournament by four strokes with a score of 18 under par.

 

How can we buy tickets for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship?

 

The great news for golf fans is that general admission tickets for this year’s tournament are completely free of charge and can be secured by visiting Ticketmaster UAE. There are also a number of hospitality packages from which to choose that provide attendees with food and beverage plus top vantage points of the action on the course.

 

Do we need an Al Hosn green pass to attend?

 

At the time of writing, anyone over the age of 16 looking to attend a day at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship must present a green status on their Al Hosn app alongside a negative PCR test result not exceeding 96 hours.
