Abu Dhabi is gearing up for another massive milestone in the world of jiu-jitsu.
A record-breaking 10,000 athletes from more than 130 countries are headed to the capital for the 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, taking place from 12-22 November at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City.

It’s clear the global jiu-jitsu community has full confidence in Abu Dhabi’s ability to host a top-tier event, further solidifying the city’s reputation as the world capital of jiu-jitsu and a major international sports hub.
Speaking to Gulf news this week, Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice-Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Chairman of the Organising Committee, expressed his pride in the UAE’s athletes, especially after their standout performance in Thailand at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship.
He gave a big shoutout to the families, coaches, administrators, and the entire Federation team for their dedication behind the scenes.

“This year’s edition is the biggest ever,” he said, welcoming athletes from across the globe to a country known for its hospitality, creativity, and tolerance. The goal? To make every visitor feel right at home.
Aref Hamad Al Awani from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council highlighted how this event fits into Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a true global sports powerhouse, and a breeding ground for future champions.
And here’s a figure worth celebrating: women now make up 32 per cent of participants, and 60 per cent of all athletes are traveling in from abroad.
According to Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Federation, these numbers perfectly demonstrate how Abu Dhabi continues to unite people from around the world through competition, culture, and community spirit.
