The initiative aims to inspire a new level of engagement with fitness
Active Abu Dhabi, a joint initiative by Emirates Foundation and PureHealth, has launched an inspiring new health and fitness campaign, ‘Walk 1000,’ set to ignite the community’s passion for well-being and showcase the UAE’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
The ‘Walk 1000’ challenge, beginning 1 November, will see elite athletes trek a staggering 1,000 kilometers over 30 days, cutting through Abu Dhabi’s iconic desert landscapes and landmark sites.
Covering approximately 33 kilometers daily, participants will navigate diverse terrain from Al Sila through the Liwa Desert, past Jabel Hafeet, to Al Ain, concluding in Al Wathba.

Their journey will pass by 30 sites of historical, cultural, and environmental importance, from the Baynounah Houbara Bird Sanctuary to the innovative Al Sadeem Observatory. The journey will be documented and released globally in March 2025, showcasing the emirate’s heritage and natural wonders.
Supported by the Department of Community Development, Abu Dhabi Police, and the Ministry of Defense, and sponsored by Mubadala, Ali & Sons, Al Masaood Energy, Aldar Properties, Bayanat, and EDGE, the initiative offers multiple ways for the public to get involved.
A 30-day walking challenge, accessible via PureHealth’s Pura app, encourages community members to log 6,000 steps daily.
Additionally, a series of community-focused activations, including women-only sessions and inclusive activities for people of determination, will be held throughout Abu Dhabi.
With ‘Walk 1000,’ Active Abu Dhabi and PureHealth aim to inspire a new level of engagement with fitness, emphasising the significant health benefits of just 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week.
