University students in UAE take over well-known iconic museum

University Take Over the Museum at Louvre Abu Dhabi

The central focus of this year’s iteration was sustainability, where University students in UAE took a stand

In a dazzling display of creativity and sustainability, Louvre Abu Dhabi recently played host to the second edition of the University Take Over the Museum.

The museum is a hive of activity at the moment and you can still catch the highly popular Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design exhibition at Louvre Abu Dhabi until 24 March.

The exclusive University event brought together the brightest minds of students from the UAE, transforming the prestigious museum into a hub of innovation, artistic expression, and a celebration of sustainable practices.

One of the standout projects was ‘Roots in Threads: Al Aflaj Cultural Tapestry’ by the talented Klaithem Al Jabri. This unique installation featured traditional dresses adorned with intricately embroidered maps of the Aflaj irrigation systems.

Mariam Alhosani and Mi Alwheibi brought their creativity to life with the captivating performance-based workshop titled ‘Fluid Motions.’ Inspired by Chirisei Kyubiki and the physical process of Kazuo Shiraga, the performance used sand from each of the seven emirates to symbolise the harmonious blend of cultures.

The takeover wasn’t just about traditional art forms. Students dived into the realm of technology with Virtual Reality (VR), Extended Reality (XR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital interventions. The museum came alive with interactive workshops and captivating performances, showcasing the students’ ability to blend tradition with cutting-edge innovation.

This initiative wasn’t just about a one-time spectacle. All participating students received a coveted Young Adult Membership, granting them free access to the museum for a whole year. Louvre Abu Dhabi is not just a museum; it’s a living, breathing space for the continual exchange of ideas and artistic exploration.

The University Take Over the Museum at Louvre Abu Dhabi was more than just an event; it was a glamorous fusion of art, sustainability, and technological innovation.

As the participating students continue to explore the museum’s role in promoting sustainability, they are leaving behind a legacy of creativity and commitment to lasting environmental practices.

Louvre Abu Dhabi, with its commitment to cultural diversity and connections, remains at the forefront of shaping the artistic landscape in the UAE.
