The UAE’s space centre has launched a new space-related research programme for students

To infinity, and beyond…

Space exploration has not only become a hot topic on a worldwide basis but is also very much at the core of plans by the UAE to announce their arrival as a big player when it comes to exploring the galaxy.

The UAE celebrated a major milestone when Sultan Al Neyadi become the first Emirati to complete a spacewalk earlier this year.

Not only that but more space related news was announced last week when it was revealed that two of Abu Dhabi’s biggest technological companies Bayanat and Yahsat merged in a bid to become first AI-powered space technology champion for the Middle East.

And this week it was revealed that the Space Science Research Programme aims to entice students into the country’s National Space Programme by helping them develop their skills and boost interest in the industry.

The initiative is aimed for Emirati students who are currently completing studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths. Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in Dubai will then host the project which will take place over ten weeks next year.

The UAE will also look to cement their place as a global space superpower in 2024 with the launch of the Middle East’s most formidable satellite and the advent of two Nasa-trained Emirati astronauts.

Nora Al Matrooshi and Mohammed Al Mulla have been attending NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston and are anticipated to graduate in 2024. They will be available for US-led missions once they complete the programme.

Exciting times ahead for the UAE’s space exploration programme.
