Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi also posts selfie with planet Earth in the background from the International Space Station

Get ready to be amazed.

Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi has just shared a photo of the UAE taken from the International Space Station (ISS), and it’s absolutely stunning!

The epic snapshot posted on the astronaut’s Twitter account has generated over 1,420 retweets as of writing time.

“No matter where I am in the world, my path always leads me home. And even from Space, the sight of our beautiful country takes my breath away every time,” Al Neyadi wrote in a Twitter post.

The astronaut from Al Ain blasted off to the ISS on 2 March onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft, as part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission. It was the second attempt for the Crew-6 launch after the mission’s first launch date on 27 February was called off by NASA less than three minutes before lift-off because of a technical issue.

Al Neyadi has since been actively posting video clips and photos of his activities on the space station on his Twitter account, including a video of him spinning an iPad and addressing a question to “smart people” about the physics behind the iPad’s rotating action.

He also shared a selfie with planet Earth in the background, accompanied by a message to his countrymen and the country’s leaders. “From space, I salute earth. I salute our homeland and its leaders. I salute all those who carried Zayed’s ambition in their hearts and aim high to the sky. The dream has come true and now we dream bigger.”

Al Neyadi is the first Arab astronaut to carry out a long-duration space mission. The Emirati astronaut will spend six months on the ISS, where he will conduct over 200 science experiments in collaboration with different UAE universities, including a study of heart tissue beating in space, which is part of research in the development of 3D-printing technology for human organs.

Apart from Al Neyadi, the Crew-6 mission also includes NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen, the mission commander, and Warren Hoburg, the pilot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, who along Al Neyadi is a mission specialist.
