Etihad Rail construction is now complete

A tweet from their official website confirmed the same, although it’s just being used for freight operations now.

The excitement to travel faster across the UAE has been ongoing ever since the first announcement of Etihad Rail.

And the latest announcement from their official Twitter account has now confirmed the completion of the network’s construction! According to the Etihad Rail website, “The National Rail Network is complete”. And as a demonstration of this, commercial freight operations have already begun.

Milestones highlighted in the clip include; nine tunnels with a total length of 6.5km, 593 bridges and crossings, tourism benefits valued at AED 23 billion and 120 million cubic metres of excavation works.

Built in stages, the first line was completed in 2016 and has been transporting goods for ADNOC ever since. The second now completed stage extends across the United Arab Emirates from the border with Saudi Arabia at Ghuweifat, connecting the Emirates via Abu Dhabi, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah.

Etihad Rail’s 1,200 km network extends across the United Arab Emirates, from the border of Saudi Arabia to the border of Oman.

The National Railway Network is part of a massive AED 50 billion project with future ambitions that extend beyond our borders and into the rest of the GCC.

Oman Rail and Etihad Rail have struck an accord, partnering with Mubadala and committing to a 303km stretch of track that will unite the two GCC nations by rail. The 200kph connection will reduce travel times from Sohar in Oman, to the city of Abu Dhabi to just 100 minutes.
