UAE employees could enjoy a six-day break to celebrate the festival of the sacrifice
Get ready for another long weekend!
The Emirates Astronomy Society (EAS) has predicted Eid al Adha to fall on Wednesday, 18 June, this year, which means the UAE could enjoy a six-day holiday.
According to a list of public holidays announced by the UAE, Arafat Day and Eid al Adha will be celebrated for four days this year. Eid al Adha, or the festival of the sacrifice, falls on Dhul Hijjah 10-12 in the Islamic calendar, with Arafat Day celebrated a day before.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, has told Abu Dhabi media that the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah is expected to start on Monday, 19 June, which means the first day of Eid al Adha will correspond to Wednesday, 28 June, and Arafat Day on Tuesday, 27 June.
Following the government’s published dates for UAE holidays, private and public sector employees could enjoy a six-day break, including Saturday and Sunday.
It will be the UAE’s Moon-sighting committee, however, that will make the official announcement on the dates for Eid al Adha.
