Yas Island’s special World Environment Day event takes place this week

If you’re looking for a family-friendly day out that’s fun, interactive, and actually quite eye-opening, Yas Island has something a bit different lined up this June.

To mark World Environment Day (5 June) and World Ocean Day (8 June), the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center is teaming up with Yas Marina to bring marine conservation to life through a series of hands-on activities and educational experiences.

On 5 June, Yas Marina will host a special activation where visitors can get up close with the SeaWorld rescue fleet, including a rescue van, pickup truck, and jet ski.

It’s an amazing chance to see the practical side of marine rescue work, with experts on site explaining how each vehicle is used in real-life operations across the UAE.

Throughout the day, marine specialists will also run interactive sessions designed to be engaging and easy to follow, showing how rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation efforts actually work behind the scenes.

Students from Aldar schools will be taking part too, adding to the community feel of the event.

For families, there’s plenty to keep younger visitors engaged. Kids can meet Sakina the Dugong, one of SeaWorld Yas Island Abu Dhabi’s most loved characters.

There will also be a range of workshops and hands-on activities that make learning about marine life feel more like play than a lesson.

The experience continues on 8 June for World Ocean Day across Yas Island, where visitors can explore interactive stations focused on mangroves, seagrass, coral reefs, and other key ecosystems.

The aim is to show how important these habitats are and why protecting them matters for the region’s future.

Overall, it’s a relaxed, family-friendly way to learn something meaningful without it ever feeling heavy or overly technical.
