Spectrum’s fourth Photographers in Residence cohort presents Becoming Visible: Becoming Image, an exhibition exploring how photographs continue to change through memory, place and perception.
Bringing together ten artists, the show moves beyond traditional image-making into installation, sculpture, video, textiles and mixed media.
Across the exhibition, familiar elements including stars, flowers, trees, pearls, architecture and the human body become starting points for deeper questions about identity and inheritance.
The participating artists draw on personal histories, Emirati heritage, migration, folklore and everyday experiences to consider how images shape our understanding of the world.
Works range from explorations of music and performance to reflections on cultural memory, grief, belonging and the passage of time.
Photography also becomes tactile and immersive, with several projects inviting audiences to move around, interact with or physically enter the work.
Together, the fourth cohort offers a varied look at the ways contemporary photographers are questioning what an image can be.
Rather than presenting a single narrative, Becoming Visible: Becoming Image leaves space for different perspectives to sit alongside one another.
The result is an exhibition about images in motion — and the stories that continue to unfold long after a photograph is made.
