Catch a much-anticipated rematch between Egyptian Premier League champions Zamalek and Egypt Cup champions Al Ahly at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium

The prestigious Egyptian Super Cup returns to Abu Dhabi, giving fans a chance to witness top-tier football action between two of Egypt’s best teams.

This year’s edition of the annual competition will feature a rematch between Egyptian Premier League champions Zamalek and Egypt Cup champions Al Ahly at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium on Friday, May 5, at 8.30pm.

The exciting event comes to Abu Dhabi for the second year in a row as part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the Egyptian Football Association.

Al Ahly pulled off a 2-0 win over Zamalek when both teams competed for the Cup last year at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.

The Egyptian Super Cup is among a number of top-tier events being brought to the capital as part of an initiative to establish Abu Dhabi as a leading international sporting destination.

“The upcoming match represents a continuation of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s plans to attract regional, continental and international sporting events, which reinforces the council’s ambitious plans for Abu Dhabi to be the ideal place to hold top-flight matches that are very popular and have a long history,” said Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC.

Several other major sporting events are coming to Abu Dhabi this year, including the Abu Dhabi T10, the world’s only 10-over cricket tournament sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the NBA Abu Dhabi Games. The UAE capital was also recently awarded the hosting rights to the Masters Games Series – Abu Dhabi in 2026.

Abu Dhabi has hosted five of the last seven editions of the Super Cup, starting in 2015 when Al Ahly won over Zamalek, 3-2, at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium. Zamalek struck back with a 3-1 victory on penalties over Al Ahly at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in 2017, while Al Ahly picked up another Cup beating Al Masry, 1-0, at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in 2018.

The UAE capital again hosted the match in 2020 at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, which Zamalek won over Al Ahly, 4-3, on penalties.

There’s certainly no shortage of sports action in the UAE capital, with the Super Cup offering a great opportunity for football fans to catch some of the most exciting players from the country that produced the likes of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.
