UAE and Argentina to play a friendly match in the capital

While tickets for the match sold out almost instantly, fans can still catch the SA players at Al Nahyan Stadium.

Is there nothing you can’t find in Abu Dhabi?

UAE’s capital has been donning several hats from entertainment to education and of course, sports. Their latest bid to be a major international sports destination comes full throttle with Lionel Messi and his star-studded Argentina’s impending arrival.

Tickets for the 16 November friendly match at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium between the UAE and two-time World Cup winners Argentina sold out faster than you could say football! However, all hope isn’t lost, with a ticketed training session planned at Al Nahyan Stadium on 14 November.

The gravity of the moment is that much greater with Messi’s intimation that the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be his last. It’s a big moment for the capital then, that his final warm-up match before chasing the ultimate prize in world football will be hosted here.

Given all the world-class championships including Spartan, MWTC, and more are being held in the emirate, there’s much to look forward to for sports enthusiasts and novices looking to be a part of something great. And of course, the UAE-Argentina match falls just days before the 14th Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend at Yas Marina Circuit.
