Abu Dhabi’s new schools in Zayed City will accommodate over 5,000 students starting 2024
Through a groundbreaking public-private partnership, Abu Dhabi has inaugurated three cutting-edge schools in Zayed City, set to welcome more than 5,000 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This milestone marks the UAE’s first educational infrastructure project developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), alongside the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and a consortium led by Plenary Group and BESIX Group, celebrated the opening today (11 September 2024).
The project, completed on schedule, adds significant educational capacity to Abu Dhabi’s landscape, reflecting ADIO’s successful PPP framework.

The three new campuses, spanning 81,000 square metres, meet rigorous Estidama sustainability standards and feature state-of-the-art technologies and innovative learning spaces designed to inspire creativity.
“The Zayed City Schools project exemplifies the transformative power of public-private partnerships,” said Yaser Al Nuaimi, Acting Head – Infrastructure Partnerships at ADIO.
“This collaboration creates world-class facilities that will empower students and drive Abu Dhabi’s sustainable growth.”
Dr Tareq Al Ameri, ADEK’s Assets and Facilities Office Director, highlighted the project’s importance in achieving Abu Dhabi’s educational goals, while Mohamed Badr El Din from BESIX/Plenary praised the partnership’s success.
The new schools set a high standard for future infrastructure projects, showcasing the benefits of combining public interests with private sector innovation.
This achievement is part of ADIO’s broader initiative to increase private sector involvement and investment in public infrastructure, setting the stage for more collaborative ventures in Abu Dhabi’s future development.
