It’s back to school in Abu Dhabi, here’s all you need to know about term times, holidays and more

Back to school 2024-2025

It’s time to dust off those school bags as Abu Dhabi’s kids head back to the classrooms today

No sooner have the GCSE results rolled out and it’s the first day of school in Abu Dhabi.

Whether you’re a seasoned expat or a newbie to the UAE, navigating the school calendar can feel like a pop quiz.

Here’s the lowdown:

Today, 26 August, marks the official start of the 2024-25 academic year for British and American schools across the emirate.

But, if your kids are in an Indian curriculum school, they’ve been in the game since April, with this being just a return from a summer break.

Abu Dhabi schools follow a three-term system, giving students winter, spring, and summer breaks to look forward to. With a minimum of 182 school days required by law, it’s a full schedule ahead!

All the key dates to remember

– Term 1: 26 August – 13 December

– Winter Break: 16 December – 5 January 2025

– Term 2: 6 January – 21 March

– Spring Break:  24 March – 13 April

– Term 3: 14 April– End of June (Dates may vary by school)

For parents, this means staying on top of the school runs, packed lunches, and of course, those important term dates.

Don’t forget, holidays like Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr, and Eid Al Adha will sprinkle a few extra breaks throughout the year.

So, sharpen those pencils and get ready – it’s going to be a fun ride through the school year!
