Abu Dhabi public schools will have shorter Fridays across all grades
Friday mornings are about to get even shorter for public school students in Abu Dhabi.
The Ministry of Education has announced new Friday timings that take effect this week, starting Friday, 9 January.
Fridays have always been half days, but now the school day is shrinking even more so kids can get home in time for Friday prayers.
Kindergarten students will have a slightly shorter Friday, with lessons running from 8am to 11.30am, giving the little ones a relaxed end to their week.
For Cycle One students (Grades 1 to 4), the schedule will be staggered. Some classes will take place from 7.10am to 10.30am, while others will run from 8am to 11.30am, depending on the school.

In Cycles Two and Three (Grades 6 to 12), boys and girls will have slightly different timings. Boys will attend school from 7.10am to 10.30am, and girls will finish from 8am to 11.30am, ensuring everyone can reach home in time for Friday prayers.
The change aligns with a nationwide shift in Friday prayer times, which now start at 12.45pm instead of 1.15pm.
That extra bit of morning free time means students and staff can head home and make it to the mosque on time.
For parents, it’s earlier pick-ups and a longer Friday afternoon, and for students, a faster sprint into the weekend.
