The school will also be hosting their highly-anticipated Sixth Form Invitation Evening on 2 November

Students from the British School of Al Khubairat (BSAK) are once again proving they are top in the class in the region as one of their Year 13 students has organised a Business and Economics Seminar entitled the ‘Finance for Good’ workshop on Saturday 28 October at their school campus.

Rochan, a student at the school since Year 9, has organised the event in conjunction with AmplifyME where attendees can discover the essential principles of investing. Guests will also get a chance to dive into exhilarating competitions using cutting edge and real-world simulators on the day as well. If you want to register for the event you can do so here.

The fact that an event of this magnitude has been organised by a student is no mean feat whatsoever and Rochan, who is currently studying A-Levels in Mathematics, Economics and Computer Science, has an obvious passion for this sector.

“Throughout my life, I’ve been captivated by the dynamic realm of commerce, immersing myself in books and business literature. This passion has fueled my aspirations towards finance programmes, as I seek to unravel the intricacies of the financial world and make meaningful contributions to the field.”

Rochan is confident that the students can really benefit from the seminar, adding: “This event serves as a gateway to an introductory course on finance, offering students a transformative lens through which to perceive the intricate world of finance. The skills acquired during this experience have the potential to transcend the classroom, finding practical application in their future careers or personal investment endeavors.

“By participating, students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical insights that can significantly shape their professional lives and enhance their ability to navigate the complex landscape of personal financial decisions.”

Rochan is hoping to put the skills he garners from the seminar to good use in the near future, as he wants to follow the example set by his mother who ran a pandemic-induced catering business three years ago.

“Witnessing my mother navigate this challenge not only deepened my appreciation for commerce but also ignited a profound interest in the intricate dynamics of economics and the strategic aspects of management. These experiences have not only shaped my academic interests but also fueled my determination to contribute meaningfully to these fields in the future.”

One of the most impressive elements of the initiative is the fact that it is being sponsored by ADIB Bank and Al Maryah Community Bank. Furthermore, the acquisition of AmplifyME is also another illustration of Rochan’s networking credentials.

Finance for good-BSAK

“During a study session, a nostalgic wave hit me as I recalled my participation in the Young Investment Banking Weekend by InvestIN. Rifling through my phone, I stumbled upon the application we used as the investment simulator during that event, sparking a brilliant idea. Why not leverage this simulator to organise an intra-school paper trading competition?

“Excited by the prospect, I reached out to AmplifyME, the platform’s owner. To my delight, they not only endorsed the idea but also proposed a workshop format, citing their successful experiences, including workshops at prestigious schools in the UK like Chaterhouse. It was a seamless collaboration that paved the way for an engaging and educational initiative.”

Returning to his own personal goals, the young BSAK student revealed he has high hopes to succeed in this industry.

“I am deeply committed to cultivating a sustainable business around this venture in the future. Recognising the paramount importance of financial literacy in every individual’s life, these programs tailored for high school students serve as a crucial initiation into the realms of passive investing or even a potential career in finance.

“By fostering early engagement and understanding in financial matters, we aim not only to empower the next generation but also to lay the foundation for a more financially savvy and capable society,” he concluded.

The event takes place at the campus of BSAK on 28 October for students and staff alike. Furthermore, if you want to gain an even better insight into Sixth Form life at the school they are hosting their annual Open Invitation Evening on 2 November.
