Students at The British International School Abu Dhabi (BIS Abu Dhabi) embark on a magical new topic, blending creativity, culture, and climate awareness

In a delightful twist on traditional tales, Year 1 students at BIS Abu Dhabi are reimagining fairytales through the lens of creativity, sustainability, and empowerment—in celebration of UN World Creativity and Innovation Day, observed today (21 April), and in anticipation of World Book Day on 23 April.

This magical project, Innovation within Fairytales, kicked off Term 3 with a sparkle—quite literally—as pupils followed glitter trails and giant footprints into a world of imagination and inquiry.

Inspired by a recent visit from Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the young learners crafted original stories that celebrate UAE heritage while tackling big ideas such as climate action.

The initiative builds on earlier creative units, including the popular ‘Abu Dhabi Naughty Bus’ transport-themed project.

It continues the school’s commitment to connecting learning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

From enchanted forests to eco-friendly kingdoms, these student-led stories encourage children to see themselves as changemakers—authors of their own futures.

“At BIS Abu Dhabi, we strive to deliver a truly world-class curriculum,” said the school.

“By embedding global days into our learning, we empower our students to think critically, dream big, and connect their ideas with real-world challenges and opportunities.”
