Gather your loved ones (and a box of popcorn) and enjoy one of our favourite Christmas movies this December
Of course now that the weather has cooled down the place to be is outdoors exploring all the wonderful amenities that the capital has to offer, not to mention the wealth of things to do for kids in Abu Dhabi during holiday season.
However, for many, Christmas starts and ends at home and what better way to spend quality time with family, friends, or both, than with a night feasting on a hearty festive movie?
So sit back, relax, grab a box of your favourite flavoured popcorn (malteasers are optional) and let us unveil our top ten Christmas movies for all the family. (maybe ice-cream after if you are all good)
Home Alone (1990)
An eight-year-old boy gets his wish for Christmas, to be left alone by his family, who have mistakenly left him behind on their Christmas holiday to Europe. Tasked with protecting his home from the notorious ‘Wet Bandits’, he relies on his innovation and intuition to set booby traps around his house with hilarious consequences. He also befriends an estranged neighbour along the way as his family frantically try to make their way home from their vacation.
Polar Express (2004)
All aboard! This is one for all the true believers! A young boy who has lost faith in Christmas and all it offers takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole where he embarks on a journey of self-discovery. He meets many interesting characters and makes friends along the way who prove that the wonder of life never fades for those who want to believe.
Elf (2003)
After being accidentally raised in the North Pole amongst Santa and his elves, Buddy now embarks on a journey home to New York in search of his biological father. He finally meets his real Dad Walter Hobbs who is a successful businesses man in the Big Apple. Although reluctant at first, Hobbs eventually decides to take Buddy into this life with ever increasingly anarchic consequences.
The Grinch (2000)
When the people of Whoville decide to celebrate Christmas even bigger and better than before, this gets under the skin of The Grinch and his loyal dog, Max, who live a solitary existence inside a cave on Mount Crumpet. To retaliate, he hatches a plan to pose as Santa Claus and destroy Christmas once and for all for the Whos. Will he succeed in his endeavours? Or will the spirit of the season prevail?

The Santa Clause (1994)
This movie does not start off in the best way possible as Scott Calvin accidentally kills Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, leaving all the boys and the girls without any gifts for the following morning. Scott and son Charlie then has to step in and after a quick visit to the North Pole, the guilt conscious father learns that he must become the new Santa and convince those he loves that he is indeed Santa Claus.
Jingle All The Way (1996)
Okay Dads, we have all been here, right? A father vows to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. However, every store is sold out, and he must search far and wide across the city to try and save Christmas for his little boy. He is not alone, however, and in the process develops a rivalry with a postal worker father with the same goal Myron Larabee. Cue Christmas chaos at its finest. Which Dad will come up trumps?
Klaus (2019)
Now here’s a movie guaranteed to get you all up in your feels this Christmas! What happens when a spoilt postmaster’s son meets a reclusive toymaker named Klaus? That’s for you and the entire family to find out about this festive season.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Halloween Town is a fantasy world filled with deformed monsters, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, vampires, werewolves, and witches. However the Pumpkin King has grown tired of the same routine every year and accidentally opens a portal to ‘Christmas Town.’ Captivated by the unique essence of Christmas, he tries to convince the residents of Halloween Town to convert, but they fail to embrace his meaning. Reluctantly The Pumkin King decides to play along and announces that they will take over Christmas with some interesting consequences.
Jack Frost (1998)
This fantasy adventure is one to pull on the heart strings. A Dad who can’t keep his promises is killed in a car accident, but he gets one more chance at fatherhood after his son builds a snowman on Christmas Day. The boy’s wishes come true that very night as his father returns to real life as the snowman, ready to make amends and fix the ills of their previous turbulent and flawed relationship.
Arthur Christmas (2011)
Heir to the most responsible throne in the land, Arthur has been entrusted by Mr. Claus to carry out a very important Christmas mission from his toy-making facility in the North Pole. With the help of retired Grandsanta and a rebellious young elf, Arthur must ensure that despite many obstacles throughout the night, every child gets their promised gift on Christmas day and on time too!
