Trisha Brown Dance Company brings its latest artistic performance to Abu Dhabi this November
Dance lovers in Abu Dhabi are in for a treat as the groundbreaking Trisha Brown Dance Company takes the stage at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi on 15 November, showcasing the best of postmodern dance in a unique double bill.
The evening’s performance presents an artistic bridge between the works of Trisha Brown, a pioneer whose choreographic language altered contemporary dance forever, and Noé Soulier, a French choreographer whose commissioned work explores the essence of Brown’s unique style.
The evening opens with Soulier’s In the Fall (2023), a piece that probes the physical and emotional nuances of falling.
In this new work, Soulier draws from themes central to Brown’s choreography, exploring the controlled loss of balance and the way momentum carries the body through space.
The dancers test their physical boundaries, stretching out their movements to extend the moment before a fall.
As they reach a tipping point, they descend into controlled falls that capture the beauty and complexity of the human body in motion, elevating each gesture into a powerful expression of intention, resistance, and release.
Following In the Fall, audiences will be treated to Brown’s Working Title (1985), an iconic piece that encapsulates her boundary-pushing vision.
Known for her ability to turn abstract movements into theatrical experiences, Brown’s choreography demands athleticism, endurance, and grace from her dancers.
Working Title plays with the limits of the body, as dancers engage in a series of movements that push and pull them across the stage, challenging notions of gravity and physicality.
With this evening of dance, the Trisha Brown Dance Company invites Abu Dhabi audiences to witness two generations of innovation in contemporary dance, as Brown’s influential legacy merges with Soulier’s fresh interpretation.
