This April The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi becomes a celebration of cinema, music and culture

 

NYU Abu Dhabi is hosting a vibrant lineup of events throughout April 2025, showcasing a mix of cinema, music, and cultural experiences.

The Abu Dhabi festival kicks into full swing too and there is a host of interesting performances throughout to catch your attention!

Two new exciting events have been added to the list of events at NYU Abu Dhabi this April and here’s a glimpse of what’s coming up.

 

CinemaNA: Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo

Tuesday, 15 April, 7.30 pm

Join the NYUAD Film and New Media Program for a special screening of Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, a film by Egyptian director Khaled Mansour.

The movie follows the journey of Hassan and his dog, Rambo, as they seek refuge from Hassan’s vengeful landlord after Rambo attacks him.

Set against the backdrop of Cairo, Hassan’s journey forces him to confront the fears of his past and rediscover himself. This touching film offers a mix of adventure and introspection.

From New York to Nigeria

This electrifying event celebrates Awam Amkpa’s film The Man Died, inspired by the work of Nobel Prize-winning playwright Wole Soyinka.

Curated by NYU Abu Dhabi’s Nathalie Handal, this gathering features an all-star lineup of writers, directors, actors, and musicians, including:

Wole Soyinka (Nigeria) – Nobel laureate

Awam Amkpa (USA-Nigeria) – Renowned interdisciplinary artist

Claudia Rankine (USA) – New York Times bestselling poet

Sir John Akomfrah (Ghana-UK) – Film director and screenwriter

Yolanda Castaño (Spain) – Spanish National Award-winning poet

Wale Ojo (Nigeria-UK) – Actor in The Man Died

Andrea Cote (Colombia) – Award-winning poet

Musical performances will include Anthony Joseph (Trinidad), Abínibí Groovy Band (Nigeria), Herve Samb (Senegal), Otis Brown III (USA), and Somi (USA-Rwanda–Uganda), among others.
