The Emirati Comics Exhibition also opened last weekend embodying the rich culture of the UAE

 

Manarat Al Saadiyat Terrace sprung into life last weekend as the Emirati Comics Exhibition was launched bringing a vivid collection of illustrated narratives that embody the rich culture of the UAE.

Through the creative works of various artists, the exhibition captures the spirit of the Gulf while showcasing the region’s unique characters, stories and landscapes.

There are a host of local artists featured including Abdulla Mohammed Alsharhan Alnuaimi, Abdulla Zayed Almansoori, Ali Kashwani, Alia Alkaabi, Ashjan Abdulwahad AlSinnani, Asmaa Al Remeithi, Asma Mohammed Alshehhi, Aysha Saif Al Hamrani, Bashayer Esam Ahmed, Hamda Saad, Iman Al Messabi, Eissa Alnuaimi, Khaled Salem Aljaberi, Khalid Mezaina, Maha Almheiri (Natsuko), Maryah Al-Rashed, Mohammed Alshaibani, Sono Moza, Nadia Alghaiti, Sahar Al Hajri and Sumaia Alamoodi.

You can also dive into the world of creativity with an exciting lineup of workshops at Manarat Al Saadiyat, perfect for aspiring artists, comic enthusiasts, and creatives looking to explore new horizons.

On 28 September, join Aysha Al Hermani for a quick and engaging one-hour workshop on How to Create a Zine. You’ll brainstorm, design, and create a self-published creative booklet without the need for a stapler!

For manga lovers, Manga Pop Art with Maha Al Suroor on 29 September explores colour theory and the evolving trends in manga, with an exciting look at how western media influences its bold, retro styles.

In Comics 101 on 5 October, Mohamed Al Shaibani will guide you through comic book theory and design before you create your very own one-page comic.

Asma Alshehhi’s ‘The Basics of Drawing Everything’ on 6 October teaches the foundations of drawing, breaking down complex illustrations into simple shapes.

Finally, on 12 October, Bashayer Bafadel’s How to Draw Chibi will have you mastering the cute, oversized features of this popular anime style in just 90 minutes.
