Join two insightful panel discussions at Manarat Al Saadiyat as part of the ‘Layered Medium’ exhibition
Step into a world of bold ideas and cultural discovery as the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) present Layered Dialogues; a captivating series of live discussions delving into memory, identity, and the evolving currents of cultural transformation.
Held as part of the groundbreaking exhibition Layered Medium: We Are in Open Circuits – Contemporary Art from Korea, 1960s to Today, these sessions invite you to connect with art in a deeper, more thought-provoking way.
Held at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the panels will feature renowned artists, curators, and cultural thinkers reflecting on how objects and space serve as complex mediums of expression and communication.

Panel 1 – Society as Medium – Objects as Anchors: Material, Narrative, and Memory

Dive into how objects, from ritual artefacts to everyday items, carry and transform cultural narratives across time and place. Featuring artists Sojung Jun and Rand Abdul Jabbar, moderated by Tina Sherwell (NYU Abu Dhabi).
Panel 2 – Space as Medium – Unveiling the In/Visible City
Friday, 20 June 2025, 5pm
Explore the hidden systems that shape modern cities, from Gulf masterplans to informal networks. Featuring artist Minouk Lim and architect Wael Al Awar of Waiwai Studio.
The exhibition, co-curated by Kyung-hwan Yeo (SeMA) and Maya El Khalil, features 48 works by 29 pioneering and contemporary Korean artists, including Nam June Paik, Lee Bul, Haegue Yang, Ayoung Kim, and more.
Its title references Paik’s concept of “open circuits,” viewing media as fluid, interconnected systems of communication.
