How has living in Abu Dhabi shaped your sense of belonging and community?
Living in Abu Dhabi has broadened my cultural understanding and sense of community. I’ve formed lasting connections with people from diverse backgrounds through my work and social activities.
The city’s blend of traditional and modern elements has inspired personal growth and a deeper appreciation for cultural exchange. While there have been challenges as an expat, the welcoming nature of the community has made me feel at home. Compared to my previous experiences, Abu Dhabi’s unique cultural landscape has taught me the value of adaptability and open-mindedness, enriching my sense of belonging and community.
What is your favourite thing about the emirate and why?
My favourite thing is the government’s emphasis on healthcare and wellness. I’ve been impressed by the high-quality medical facilities and services available, such as SEHA.
The government’s efforts to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to residents and citizens alike are truly commendable. I appreciate how they prioritise health and wellness, making it easier for people to lead healthy and happy lives. This aspect is significant to me because it shows the government’s commitment to the well-being of its people, making Abu Dhabi a great place to live and work.
A myth about Abu Dhabi that you would like to bust.
One myth I’d like to break about Abu Dhabi is that it’s only a city for the wealthy. While it’s true that Abu Dhabi is known for its luxury and opulence, my experience has shown me that the city has much more to offer.
From affordable housing options to free public beaches and cultural events, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the city without breaking the bank. In fact, the government has implemented initiatives to make the city more accessible and affordable for all. With its diverse community and inclusive atmosphere, Abu Dhabi has become a home for people from all walks of life, making it a vibrant and exciting place to live.
Could you share a memorable moment when you felt the genuine warmth and hospitality of the Abu Dhabi community in your own life?
One memorable moment that stands out was during the Eid Al Fitr celebrations. My neighbours, who were Emirati, invited me to join them for a traditional feast at their home. I was touched by their warm welcome and inclusivity, as they shared stories, food, and laughter with me.
What struck me was the genuine interest they took in my culture and background and the effort they made to make me feel part of the community. That moment embodied the true spirit of Abu Dhabi’s hospitality and warmth, making me feel grateful to be a part of this community.
