1 January, 2026 will be a paid holiday for private sector workers

Good news for anyone already counting down to the end of the year!

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has officially announced that 1 January, 2026 (New Year’s Day) will be a paid holiday for all private sector employees across the UAE.

That means a guaranteed day off to celebrate, recover from the celebrations, or simply ease into the new year.

Work resumes on 2 January, so enjoy that mid-week breather while it lasts.

The update brings the private sector in line with the federal New Year holiday, setting a festive tone as the country gears up to welcome 2026.

But what about Christmas Day?

If you’re wondering whether 25 December comes with a day off, here’s the quick answer: it’s not an official public holiday in the UAE.

That said, many employers do offer leave, flexible hours, or small celebrations depending on their team and workplace culture

So, while it’s not guaranteed, you might still get a little festive perk; it just depends on your company.

For now, at least one thing is set in stone: New Year’s Day is yours to enjoy.

Time to start planning how you’re kicking off 2026!
